How Is a Custom Waterjet Marble Inlay Made? A Step-by-Step Guide

September 01, 2026

Custom marble inlay may look effortless when installed.

But behind a clean geometric pattern are several steps that require careful coordination — from material selection and drawing review to waterjet cutting, layout and final fabrication.

So, how is a custom waterjet marble inlay actually made?

1. Design & Drawing Review

The process begins with the design.

The pattern, dimensions, stone types, thickness and metal details need to be confirmed before production.

2. Stone Selection

For this project, Thassos Marble provides a bright and clean base for the geometric design.

The right stone is important because natural variation, surface finish and color can influence the final appearance.

3. Waterjet Cutting

The approved design is converted into individual stone pieces using waterjet cutting.

This allows complex shapes and detailed patterns to be produced with high precision.

4. Dry Layout

Before final assembly, the pieces are arranged according to the drawing.

This is one of the most important stages because it allows the team to check:

  • Pattern continuity
  • Piece positioning
  • Overall proportions
  • Color balance
  • Metal inlay placement

5. Metal Inlay

The metallic lines are carefully integrated into the stone pattern, adding a warm contrast to the white marble.

The combination of marble and brass/metal details is currently a popular direction in luxury interiors, particularly when designers want to soften the coolness of white stone with warmer metallic accents.

6. Finishing & Quality Control

After assembly, the surface is checked and finished to ensure the individual pieces work together as one complete design.

From a Drawing to a Surface

That's what makes custom waterjet stone different from standard tiles.

The final product is not simply selected from a catalogue.

It is designed, fabricated and made for a specific space.

At Toras, we work with project teams, designers and contractors on custom natural stone solutions.
